International expert conference ‘Fragile Lives 2024’ cutting-edge research and practitioners develop strategies against multiple crises
How do people around the world react to the simultaneous occurrence of various crises such as droughts, famines and wars? How can food security be increased in multiple crises? What can science contribute to stabilising and strengthening affected societies and states? Questions like these will be discussed by researchers from various disciplines and experts from the field at the international conference ‘Fragile Lives 2024’ on 1 and 2 October 2024 at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The international expert conference ‘Fragile Lives 2024’ enables a unique exchange between cutting-edge research and practitioners such as experts from international donor organisations. The aim of the conference is to jointly develop science-based policy recommendations that improve the lives of people affected by multiple crises.
Fragile Lives 2024 will be opened by the President of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof Dr Julia von Blumenthal, the President of the Leibniz Association, Prof Dr Martina Brockmeier, and Deike Potzel, Head of Division for Crisis Prevention, Stabilisation, Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office. The conference is a joint project of the Zero Hunger Lab at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys) at Humboldt-Universität and the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ).
In addition to lectures and panel discussions, ‘Fragile Lives 2024’ also includes the annual workshops of the Households in Conflict Network (HiCN), the Leibniz Environment And Development Symposium (LEADS) and the Working Group on Methods of Peace and Conflict Research (AFK-Methods).
