ProFiL Programme in the Berlin University Alliance supports women scholars pursuing a professorship
The 18th funding round of the ProFiL Programme offers space for 66 high-achieving women scholars from the integrated research area of the Berlin University Alliance. From July 2025 to July 2026, the selected participants develop career strategies and prepare for the leadership and management tasks of a professorship. The successful ProFiL Programme of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin has been running since 2004 and has been expanded as part of the Berlin University Alliance to offer additional places and an English-language program line for international women academics. Applications for the new funding round are open until November 15.
News from Oct 10, 2024
With the ProFiL Programme as part of the Berlin University Alliance, the three cooperating Berlin universities contribute to increasing the proportion of women in professorships: As a current 2024 interim balance shows, numerous ProFiL alumnae have been appointed to professorships in Germany and abroad. In addition, ProFiL alumnae take responsibility as (vice) presidents or (pro) rectors of universities and as directors of non-university research institutes and academies for shaping the higher education and science system for the future and are committed to a culture of excellence and gender equality in academia.
“The ProFiL Programme for the professionalization of women in research and teaching enriches my career in science. I still benefit from the exchange with highly qualified female colleagues and networking with leading figures from science, politics and other relevant areas of society. That is why I also support the ProFiL Programme as a board member of the ProFiL Network Association,” says Prof. Dr. Fatma Deniz, alumna of the ProFiL Programme and Vice President for Digitalization and Sustainability at Technische Universität Berlin since April 1, 2024.
The ProFiL Programme offers the opportunity for high-achieving women scholars to expand their knowledge of structures, processes and rules in the scientific community and to receive advice on career planning from experienced mentors. In accompanying seminars, participants prepare for appointment procedures in Germany and selected international higher education systems; they further develop their leadership skills and expand their knowledge of current forms of higher education management and the acquisition of third-party funding.
Women scholars with a habilitation, habilitation candidates, junior professors, junior research group leaders and postdocs from Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung are eligible to apply. The English-language funding line is also open to English-speaking international women scientists from Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The German-language program line requires a very good commandof German and the English-language program line requires a very good command of English (C1 level). Participation costs 150 euros.
