Berlin Universities Publishing (BerlinUP), the academic publisher in the Berlin University Alliance, has become one of the first university publishers in the German-speaking world to support authors with a guideline on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic publications. The guideline is available online.

News from May 15, 2024

Based on international standards and case studies, the AI-guideline regulates the use of artificial intelligence in publications by Berlin Universities Publishing. Among other things, BerlinUP determines who is to be named as the author when artificial intelligence is used in the publication process and regulates the responsibility of authors for publications that are created using artificial intelligence.

In the associated handout on the citation of AI tools, BerlinUP determines which applications are considered AI tools and explains how authors of the publisher may use these applications and how their use must be identified for readers.
The AI guideline also provides authors and editors with an overview of developments in the field of artificial intelligence and clarifies what influence these have on scientific publishing. The guideline will be updated regularly.
