The "Data Versioning" interest group of the Research Data Alliance has developed six principles that can be used to describe versioning. This presentation will introduce the principles of versioning research data and discuss their application in practice.
Versioning is a term that is often used in the context of research data management. But what do we mean when we say: "B is a version of A"? Is the content different? Do the formats differ? What effect do the differences have? What do I need to cite? How do I use persistent identifiers? The "Data Versioning" interest group of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) has developed six principles that can be used to describe versioning. This presentation will introduce the principles of versioning research data and discuss their application in practice.
Dr Jens Klump is Senior Principal Research Officer at CSIRO, the Australian Research Agency in Perth, Western Australia (Link). There he leads a research group on the topic of resource exploration. As part of his work, he deals with research data infrastructures in order to be able to use research data as smoothly as possible for data-driven research and AI in the search for ore deposits. He is also the Division President Earth and Space Science Informatics of the European Geosciences Union and Chairman of the International Generic Sample Number Organisation (IGSN).
His stay is funded by the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) as part of the BUA Fellowship Programme "Advancing Research Quality and Value". During his time in Berlin, he is a guest researcher at the Institute of Library and Information Science (IBI) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in the Information Management Department. (Link)
