Colloquium of the Objective 3 - Advancing Research Quality and Value
In the October session of the colloquium, Dr. Jana Ulrich, research associate at the Chair of Climatology at Technische Universität Berlin, will introduce the project “Open Urban Climate Observatory Berlin for environmental research and applications“ and present first interim results.
The Urban Climate Observatory (UCO) Berlin is an open and long-term infrastructure for integrative research on weather and climate in cities. Quality-controlled observations are conducted to investigate the interaction between atmospheric processes and urban structures as well as climate variability and climate change in urban environments. However, the spatial heterogeneity of Berlin results in a pronounced spatial variability of meteorological variables, which cannot be captured by means of the established urban measurement station network. In the OpenUCO project, the existing station network is therefore being extended through a citizen science approach. To this end, participants, such as allotment gardeners, are maintaining measuring devices specially developed for this purpose. In the further course of the project, citizens will be involved not only in data collection but also in analysis and formulation of research questions.
The colloquium is aimed at scientists of all status groups and interested parties from all scientific and non-scientific fields. The session will be held English.
Interested parties can register for the online colloquium by email: nele.albrecht@berlin-university-alliance.de. The meeting link will be sent one week prior to the colloquium.
