In the upcoming colloquium session Dr. Felicitas Heßelmann and Rocio Fonseca, research assistants at the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, will present the BMBF-funded project ‘AUTO – Automatisierte Fehlverhaltensprüfung’. The project deals with digital tools for the detection and investigation of scientific misconduct, such as plagiarism scanners, statistical analysis tools or tools for the detection of image manipulation in Photoshop. To this end, the project examines the development, use, and possible effects of these tools and questions the respective definitions, demarcation criteria, and normative pre-understandings of unauthorized behavior that are inscribed in the tools and are thus transported into the procedures and decisions.The project aims to contribute to a better understanding of the extent to which these tools influence what is understood and implemented as scientific misconduct or, analogously, as good scientific practice.

The colloquium is aimed at researchers of all status groups as well as interested parties from all scientific and non-scientific fields. This session will be held in German.

The colloquium is organized within the framework of Objective 3: Advancing Research Quality and Value. It always takes place on the last Wednesday of the month from 2 to 3.30 pm. The Colloquium is open to researchers of all status groups and disciplines as well as interested parties from the non-academic areas.
