This course integrates the study of authoritarian governance with the methodological challenges of unconventional data analysis. Focusing on contemporary Russia, students will engage in large-scale text analysis using regional press data from the Integrum database. The course will examine regional variations within Russia, highlighting differences and similarities in authoritarian control, resistance, and adaptation. Students will receive rigorous training in text mining techniques to manipulate and analyze the data effectively, providing insights into the complex dynamics of regional governance under autocratic regimes.
