Surrealism: text, image, critique
Leader: Alex Leo Freier; Institutional affiliation: Institut für Kulturwissenschaft, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Funding Period: 20.04.2022 – 20.07.2022
Surrealism seems to be making a comeback. Not only are several current exhibitions dedicated to it, but surrealism is also sometimes referred to in connection with the plethora of images in the media, the mass use of image manipulation and the problem of “deep fakes”. In the X-Student Research Group, we will deal with the beginnings of literary surrealism in Breton and Aragon in the form of readings, but also with surrealism in the visual arts (a guided exhibition tour in Berlin is planned). The special format of X-Student Research Groups allows students to develop their own research questions in the sense of “research-based learning”, to regularly exchange ideas about them and to present the results of their projects at the end of the semester.
The course is aimed in particular at students of the humanities, but is open to all those interested.
Course language: German
