Synthesis and analysis of high-strength Aluminum-scandium alloys for application in aerospace and automotive industry
Leader: Dr. Mareike Wegener, Dr. Tillmann Neu, Paul Kamm; Institutional affiliation: Institut für Werkstoffwissenschaften und -technologien, Technische Universität Berlin
Funding Period: April 2022 – September 2022
The focus of the module is the synthesis and analysis of new Al-Sc casting alloys for aerospace and automotive applications. In this research project, students will identify and investigate other alloying elements that contribute to the improvement of the properties of Al-Sc alloys, especially regarding microstructure development and mechanical properties. The module is primarily designed for students from the field of material sciences and engineering, mechanical engineering, physics and chemistry who are studying at least in the 4th semester of their bachelor's degree and have a practical interest in alloy development.
The introductory event will be on April 20, 2022, at our seminar room. Further work will be done in small groups throughout the semester. Results will be discussed during oral presentation. English speaking students are welcome. Questions can be sent to mareike.wegener@tu-berlin.de.
