Inhalte

This course hosted at the Geography Department, Campus Adlershof (first meeting is on Thursday, 24 April 2025, 4 - 6.00 pm in Room 1.206), explores how both urban and rural spaces become sites of struggle, negotiation, and survival for various populations, especially in contexts of conflict, migration, and health crises. The concept of territory is examined from both a literal perspective (such as land, cities, and hospitals) and a figurative one (including social, cultural, and political boundaries).  Structured around a comparative study of the experiences of communities in Berlin/Germany and Cameroon, the course investigates how local populations creatively and strategically adapt to shifting spaces of vulnerability.  This Student Research Opportunities Program (StuROPx) invites students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines to explore the multiple facets of these concepts. Throughout the course, participants will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct research, with guidance provided during the process, including excursions in Berlin and, in case of successful PROMOS funding application, to Cameroon during semester break of 1-10 June 2025. The final results of their work will be presented as posters at the Berlin Conference for Student Research. The course is open to bachelor and master’s students from a variety of fields. Proficiency in English is required, as the course will be conducted in English.
