The Berlin University Alliance is looking for motivated Ambassadors for Open Science!
Are you passionate about Open Science and want to help your colleagues implement the topic in their everyday research? Would you like to organize events with guests from whom you and your colleagues can learn? Get involved and become an Ambassador for Open Science at your faculty or department!
News from Apr 02, 2025
If you are a researcher with experience in open science topics and want to spend a year working on the implementation of open science in your community, please send us a short letter of motivation. As an ambassador for open science, you are not alone: the team and network of the Center for Open and Responsible Research are always available to answer your questions and offer you access to training and networking events. In addition, you can build on the experiences of the Open Science Ambassadors who have been involved at nine departments since August 2024.
Open science ranges from transdisciplinary approaches to accessible and transparent research data to reusable and verifiable results... all of which requires subject-specific and low-threshold solutions in order to be implemented in everyday research. Show researchers, students and decision-makers at your institution how they can benefit from and participate in open science! Become part of a network of ambassadors who work with us to put open science into practice!
Tell us in a letter of motivation (max. one page): What sparked your interest in open science? Send the letter and a CV to open-science@berlin-university-alliance.de by June 2, 2025. We also welcome applications from tandems or small teams! The program starts on August 1, 2025.
You can find more information about the program on our website. If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact us at any time or register here for our digital information session on applying on May 16, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.!
What do I do as an ambassador?
- Train Your Peers! You organize events on open science topics as well as a regular open science office hour or comparable formats on your own responsibility.
- Connect! You become part of a BUA-wide network in which you exchange ideas with ambassadors from other faculties about open science practices and their implementation and actively try to interest fellow campaigners in this network at their institutions.
- Share Your Experiences! You report on your own activities and experiences in a format of your choice (e.g. a website, blog posts, public report).
What's in it for me?
- You take part in networking events and training that the Center for Open and Responsible Research at the BUA organizes based on your needs.
- You will receive €4,000 in material resources to organize your own events (per faculty or department for one year).
- You will receive formal recognition and visibility as an Open Science expert at your faculty or department.
- As an ambassador, you will help to implement the BUA's mission statement for Open Science.
What do we expect from you?
- You are a doctoral student, postdoc or professor at a faculty or department of a BUA partner institution with a contract until at least July 31, 2026.
- Ideally, you have some previous experience in the field of open science (e.g. open access publications, research data management, transdisciplinary research, open software).
