Paneldiscussion “Evaluating Researchers: Ambitions and Realities” now online available!
How do we select good scientists? What are the evaluation criteria beyond the well-known metrics? How can reforms be institutionally anchored?
News from Nov 05, 2024
The need to reform the current system of scientific assessment, which is largely based on quantitative metrics, is widely recognized. The impressive list of members of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) makes this particularly clear. But how do we get there? What progress has been made toward these goals? How are the goals being met, and what challenges lie ahead?
These and other questions were discussed by our distinguished guests:
Elizabeth Gadd, Vice President, Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), UK
Joachim Spranger, Dean, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany
Stephan Gauch, Senior Researcher, Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany
Tamarinde Haven, Assistant Professor, Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Methodology and Statistics, Tilburg University, The Netherlands
Elisabeth Herrmann, Professor of German Studies, University of Warwick & Chair Tenure Track Board Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany
Julian Polte, Professor & Chair of Machine Tools and Technologies for Additive Manufacturing of Precise Metallic Components, Technische Universität Berlin, Germany; ead of the Production Systems Division at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology, Berlin.
The discussion was moderated by Jess Rohmann, senior researcher at the Institute of Public Health, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research at Charité, Berlin, Germany. A recording of the discussion is now available on YouTube.
The event was co-organized by the Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research, the QUEST Center for Responsible Research at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (BIH), and the Berlin University Alliance. Together, we strive to foster a transparent and responsible research assessment system, prioritizing quality over quantity.
