The supervision of doctoral students is often poorly regulated and formalized. Frequently, there is uncertainty about responsibilities, unspoken expectations are not met, and roles are mixed. This often leads to dissatisfaction and frustration for both doctoral students and supervisors.
Successful doctoral supervision therefore requires a clear structure and formalization of processes and responsibilities, but at the same time it must be flexible enough to take into account the individual requirements and competencies of the doctoral candidates as well as the challenges of the respective research processes.

Learning objectives
Participants

  • design effective communication processes in doctoral supervision that enable clear and open communication between supervisors and doctoral candidates.
  • design their leadership role in the supervision of doctoral studies, taking into account the needs and expectations of doctoral students.
  • develop an expectation management system to make the doctoral process transparent and successful.
  • develop instruments/tools for their doctoral supervision.
  • get to know collegial counseling as a method for supervising doctoral studies.
