The Berlin University Alliance joined CoARA by signing the agreement in April 2023. The Berlin Institute of Health and Charité had already taken this step (March 2023). The fact that Technische Universität Berlin (September 2023) and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (March 2024) have also joined CoARA underscores the BUA partners' shared interest in addressing research assessment processes with the overarching goal of improving the quality of research.

The BUA also supports the reform efforts of its partners in a very practical way by funding the innovation group “Matters of Research Assessment and its Implementation”. In two subprojects, the group is dealing with assessment and steering in research networks (MAI-A) and focusing on the adaptation of assessment processes in the area of appointment and tenure-track evaluation (MAI-I).
