The art-driven workshop enables participants to reflect on their own implicit stigmatization tendencies and improve their empathy skills, which is crucial for overcoming deep-rooted prejudices.
Psychiatric illnesses are widespread, but stigma and discrimination are a major problem. Prejudice makes access to treatment and social support difficult and impairs the quality of life of those affected. This group of people often produce art and literature that offer insights into their experiences. They promote empathy and understanding among the public.
The Charité study LIBIAS, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health, is investigating whether art and literature-based anti-stigma interventions reduce stigmatization.
