Core Facility Electron Microscopy (CFEM)
The Core Facility Electron Microscopy (CFEM) at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin offers a wide range of transmission and scanning electron microscopy methods (TEM, SEM) with a focus on research applications in the life sciences.
We advise on project planning and execution (sample fixation and preparation), as well as the analysis of collected data. Our services also include personalized training to enable independent work on the microscopes. If requested, we can also process projects as a full-service, with sample fixation and preparation as well as imaging in the electron microscope being carried out by the CFEM.
In addition to classical electron microscopy (TEM, SEM), we can offer other techniques such as cryopreparation methods, immunoelectron microscopy or energy-filtered TEM.
Alongside traditional EM techniques, modern electron microscopy encompasses a range of technological advancements. Particularly, 3D techniques have expanded the understanding of cell and tissue ultrastructure down to the molecular level. The CFEM provides various 3D techniques such as electron tomography (ET), array tomography (AT) and serial block-face scanning electron microscopy (SBF-SEM).
