Kick-off for Berlin Leadership Academy
With its flagship programs, the Berlin Leadership Academy of the Berlin University Alliance begins its work
News from Apr 22, 2021
In the Berlin Leadership Academy of the Berlin University Alliance, the academic advanced training institutions of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin cooperate to strengthen the leadership development within the Excellence Alliance.
The Berlin Leadership Academy's program kicks off with four newly developed programs for executives. Supervised by one institution each, these so-called flagship programs are open to research leaders from all partner institutions. The programs each set their own objectives – from leadership in complex governance structures (Freie Universität Berlin) and decision-making in challenging situations (Charité) to resource orientation and performance management (Technische Universität Berlin), and the funding of female professors (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin). The first workshops of the programs are scheduled to start at the end of May this year.
In addition to the individual development and support of executives, the Berlin Leadership Academy has set itself the goal of contributing to the networking of participants through its programs. In the long term, this is intended to foster the development of a cross-institutional and common understanding of leadership in the Berlin Excellence Alliance.
At the event "Ask the BUA!“ in January 2021, Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler, president of Freie Universität Berlin, had already announced the Berlin Leadership Academy – now, after laying the groundwork during the past months, the Academy is actively getting started. I am very pleased that we are finally able to launch an exciting leadership program for this target group, which is also very important for the alliance," says Prof. Dr. Annette Mayer, co-spokesperson of the Berlin Leadership Academy, on behalf of the Expert Committee, which was instrumental in developing the concept for the Berlin Leadership Academy. Together with Dr. Annette Mayer (Technische Universität Berlin), Dr. Ursula Fuhrich-Grubert (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Dr. Nathalie Huber (Charité), and Prof. Dr. Rudolf Kerschreiter (Freie Universität Berlin) are members of the "Expert Committee”. The Berlin Leadership Academy is part of the objective Promoting Talent of the Berlin University Alliance.
