Impacter is an online software tool that was developed to support academics in writing EU third-party funding applications. It primarily refers to consortium research, but is also applicable and tailored to other areas of EU research. The aim of the tool is to analyze and structure considerations on the societal impact of the proposed research in order to improve the entire draft proposal. In just a few minutes, users receive feedback on the draft, in particular on the chapter on the societal impact of the application. With an emphasis on the chapter “Impact on society”, the tool checks e.g. whether information on “planned results”, “planned target group (s)” is available and whether there are plans for the feasibility and implementation of the impact plans.
In addition, the readability of the entire draft proposal is measured using common readability indices, the relationship to political guidelines such as the SDGs is examined and the relationship to the tender text is assessed. The proposal will also be compared with other EU-projects in order to identify potential partners as well as competitors. Based on the analyzes, Impacter then suggests improvements that applicants can include in the application text.
