The BCGE organises a joint digital talk with the Center for Science and Policy in Cambridge
The Berlin Center for Global Engagement (BCGE) is collaborating with the Centre for Science and Policy in Cambridge to organise a talk which will be delivered by Dr Jan Marco Müller – the current Science & Technology Advisor in the European External Action Service (EEAS). In his talk, Jan Marco Müller will share insights based on his experiences of working as a science advisor among diplomats, and advising on matters ranging from critical raw materials and climate change to the development of COVID-19 vaccines.
In August 2020, Jan Marco Müller was appointed as the first Science & Technology Advisor in the EEAS which is coordinating the EU’s foreign and security policies. Previously he was the Science Diplomacy Coordinator of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Vienna; the Chief of Staff to Dame Anne Glover during her time as CSA to the President of the European Commission; and an assistant to the Director General of the Joint Research Centre – the European Commission’s in-house science and knowledge service.
To respond to Dr Müller, we have invited Paola A. Yanguas Parra, a research associate at the Technische Universität Berlin, whose work focuses on international climate and energy policy and evidence-based policy design for societal transitions out fossil-fuels dependency. Paola will be coordinating a new multilateral initiative at the Technische Universität Berlin in collaboration with the Humboldt-Universität Berlin and the Freie Universität Berlin: the Transnational Centre for Just Transitions in Energy, Climate & Sustainability (TRAJECTS), one of eight new Global Centres funded by DAAD and dedicated to climate and healthcare.
The language of the event will be English. The event will take place via Zoom. Following the talk, there will be an opportunity to connect with other participants on 'Wonder' – an online space where people can meet and talk.
