The Postdocs at Risk Program:
Finding Your Path in Berlin
A New Start in a Safe Academic Environment
Unlike international postdocs, those at risk often arrive under urgent and difficult circumstances, leaving behind their professional networks, research projects, and sometimes even their ability to work safely in their field. They may have to navigate complex legal and financial obstacles, adapt to a new academic environment, and deal with the emotional toll of forced displacement. The Postdoc Academy has designed a specialized support system to help you tackle these challenges and take the next step in your academic career.
What the Postdocs at Risk Program offers:
If you are a postdoctoral researcher who has been forced to leave your home country due to war, political persecution, or restrictions on academic freedom, you are not alone. The Postdoc Academy of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) recognizes the unique challenges displaced scholars face and has created the Postdocs at Risk (PAR) program to support you in rebuilding your academic career in Germany.
The Postdocs at Risk program provides targeted support, including:
All events also serve as opportunities to connect with fellow postdocs who share similar experiences, exchange ideas, and build a professional network.
These initiatives run continuously throughout the year, and you can apply for individual sessions.
How to Apply
The program is open to postdocs at risk across all four universities of the Berlin University Alliance (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité).
Events and workshops are currently being planned. More information, including event details and application instructions, will be provided here soon.
