Academic Director Çiğdem İşsever at Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften
Professor Çiğdem İşsever, Academic Director of the Oxford Berlin Research Partnership, and physicist at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, will give a talk entitled "The Higgs Discovery – A success story of the Large Hadron Collider”
The Higgs boson is a unique particle that plays a key role in explaining how elementary particles acquire mass (weight). The existence of this Higgs particle was proven in 2012 at the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider – LHC. Prof. Çiğdem İşsever will speak about the physics of the LHC: How does the LHC particle accelerator work, what are the basics of the Standard Model of particle physics, how are Higgs particles produced at the LHC and how can they be measured with the ATLAS experiment?
