The project builds on critical perspectives on international (criminal) law, which accentuate the continued marginalization of peoples of the Global South in the postcolonial constellation and which have been put forward, inter alia, by scholars forming part of the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) tradition. The project aims to add a novel dimension to this South-North conversation: the question of criminal responsibility for crimes under international law, such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, as well as other serious human rights violations. The project brings together scholars and practitioners from the Global South and North in order to develop this dimension further. It is led by Prof. Dr. Florian Jeßberger (Faculty of Law, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Gosepath (Institute of Philosophy, Freie Universität Berlin) and involves partners from the University of Chile (Santiago de Chile), the University of Buenos Aires, the University of the Western Cape (Cape Town), the University of Oxford, and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (Berlin).
