In Indonesia, a large-scale civic education model created a vast network of universities that have to some degree shaped Islam since the 1960s, including interfaith initiatives in the multi-faith society. As the German state is building up capacities in introducing Islamic theology in several places, the Berlin University Alliance offers the ideal environment to create a multi-stakeholder-dialogue between German and Indonesian academics, religious educators, the broader civil society, as well as selected state actors.
