The research network Colonial Collections in Berlin Universities aims to identify sensitive collections in the repositories of BUA-institutions and promote a dialogue on ethics of care and the future of these collections. It will bring together experts from Berlin and international experts on museum studies, colonial history and anthropology. The mineralogical collection (Technische Universität Berlin), the Medical History Museum collection (Charité), the sound archive (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and the archaeological finds related to the former Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institute of Anthropology (Freie Universität Berlin) have different histories; yet, they raise similar questions: what can be done with incomplete archives? How can this precious knowledge be made available in the Global South? How can relevant experts get access to these artefacts? How can these collections help working through colonial history? Are they connected to histories of violence?
