In der ersten Ausschreibungsrunde 2018 bewilligten die fünf Kooperationspartnerinnen 29 Projekte aus den Bereichen Geisteswissenschaften, Sozialwissenschaften, Medizin und den sogenannten MINT-Fächern Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik zur Förderung. Der Berliner Verbund und die University of Oxford stellen dafür 450.000 Euro zur Verfügung.

Voraussetzung für einen Forschungsantrag war, dass an dem Projekt mindestens eine der vier Berliner Einrichtungen und die University of Oxford beteiligt sind. Die Projekte sollen weiterführende Bemühungen um die Einwerbung von Drittmitteln bei der Europäischen Union sowie bei Drittmittelgebern in Deutschland und Großbritannien unterstützen. Eine Förderung konnte unter anderem beantragt werden für Workshops, Kurzzeit-Forschungsaufenthalte, Reisestipendien – auch für Promovierende und Postdoktorandinnen und -doktoranden.

Die bewilligten Projekte wurden in einem mehrstufigen Prozess durch Expertengremien ausgewählt. Bei der Begutachtung wurde Wert auf die Qualität und den Innovationsgehalt des beantragten Forschungsprojektes, die Stärke der Zusammenarbeit sowie die Wahrscheinlichkeit für eine zukünftige Förderung gelegt.
