Am 7. und 8. Juli 2022 veranstaltete die Oxford Berlin Research Partnership ein Symposium mit dem Titel "Academics in the Public Sphere: Navigating the Political"

Black Lives Matter, Corona-Pandemie, Desinformation in Zeiten des Krieges – unzählige Stimmen beteiligen sich in den sozialen Medien an den wichtigsten Debatten unserer Zeit, während die Wissenschaft zunehmend politisiert und bisweilen ins Abseits gedrängt wird. Die Vermittlung von Fakten und Wahrheit in Zeiten politischer Polarisierung ist für Expert*innen zur Herausforderung geworden.

Akademiker*innen und Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens aus Oxford und Berlin diskutierten über Redefreiheit, die Auseinandersetzung mit unserer kolonialen Vergangenheit, Künstliche Intelligenz, Hate Speech im Internet und ganz grundsätzlich über die Vermittlung komplexer Sachverhalte.

Chris Patten, Erika Fischer-Lichte, Timothy Garton Ash und viele andere einflussreiche Expert*innen waren Teil eines zweitägigen Programms voller spannender Diskussionen und Vorträge in Berlin. Das Symposium wurde von der Oxford Berlin Research Partnership organisiert und umfasste vier Sessions mit den Themen Speech, Truth and Universal Reason, the Pandemic and Universities; Living and Working with AI; und Multiple Pathways into Diverse Publics.
