Description of Research
I study the interaction between the gut, the brain and the microbiome and the role of diet in neurological conditions, such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.
Where in the world has your career been largely based until now?
In Spain and Germany
Why Berlin?
At the begining for no especial reason apart from the job location. Now, because the city has all the activities I always wanted to try.
How will your research change the world?
That's too presumptous. I would like to see that people get better with their disease thanks to a discovery in basic biology I have contributed.
What is your preferred way to communicate your research to the broader public or other specific sectors beyond academia? Where can we see, hear or read you next?
I love performing theater, and I apply it to science. You can see me participating in Pint of Science, but also in my science dissemination instagram "Biomédica Irritada" (https://www.instagram.com/biomedicairritada/) where I talk about the gut, the brain, and microbiome.
What did you want to be when you grow up?
A biologist :)
If you could have a radical career change for a week, what would it be?
Social worker
What would be the greatest professional achievement you could ever aspire to?
Make women's health better, reduce the medical violence towards them, and empower them with knowledge and strategies to overcome their pain.
Has Berlin had any surprises in store for you?
The coliving of people going to work dressed in a formal way with people dress with very little amount of clothes, in a techno-punky-goth style.
What would your advice be for colleagues at home interested in a research stay in Berlin?
Come in summer for a good impression.
