Research Quality and working conditions of Early Career Researchers
Colloquium of the Objective 3 – Advancing Research Quality and Value
Martin Holst, research fellow at the QUEST Center for Responsible Research of the Berlin Institute of Health @ Charité, will address the connection between research quality and the improvement of the working situation of young researchers.
Various appeals, such as the open letter from PhD students to institutions of the Berlin University Alliance in February of last year, have made the demands of young researchers and the urgency of their concerns accessible to a broader public. The focus lies on the extent to which the high pressure on young researchers exerts a negative influence on their mental health and ultimately on the quality of their research. The question is raised which means, if any, can be used to counteract these (systemic) factors.
Martin Holst is not only a co-signatory of the “Berlin appeal”, but has also led a workshop on scientific misconduct and conflicts between PhD students and supervisors at the ECR conference “(In)Credible Research - for Credibility, Integrity and Reproducibility of Research” in October 2020. In his talk, he will present, among other things, results of this workshop.
The colloquium is addressed to all interested persons from any scientific or non-scientific field. The session will be held in English.
Interested parties can register for the online colloquium by mail: nele.albrecht@berlin-university-alliance.de.
The meeting link will be sent one week prior to the colloquium.
The session is jointly organized with the Objective Promoting Talent of the Berlin University Alliance.
The colloquium is organized within the framework of the Objective Advancing Research Quality and Value. It always takes place on the last Wednesday of the month from 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.
